Melissa Moss advises senior executives and their management teams in major corporations and non-profit organizations on business, media, political strategy and public policy issues. Her leadership experience in the private sector, combined with over 20 years in national public policy and political institutions as well as in federal and state government, has given her a unique perspective to help clients achieve their business objectives.
As a Senior Vice President at Capital Guardian Trust Company, Melissa helped ultra-high net worth individuals, families and foundations realize their investment goals. Prior to that she was President and Chief Executive Officer of the Women’s Consumer Network, one of the first consumer focused internet companies.
Melissa was a senior political appointee at the U.S. Department of Commerce, and she served on the personal staff of the late Secretary Ronald H. Brown. As the Director of the Office of Business Liaison, Melissa was the primary contact between the Department and the Chief Executive Officers of America’s largest companies.
She also served as the Finance Director of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), where during her tenure, the DNC raised the most money in its history. Additionally, she was the National Field Director of the Democratic Leadership Council and established national fundraising and field operations for the newly-formed organization.
Melissa has also worked for the State of California, appointed as the Assistant Secretary for Resources. Earlier, she served as Assistant to the Director of the California Conservation Corps and as Assistant to the Director of the Governor’s Office of Programs and Policies.
Melissa currently serves on the boards of the Shakespeare Theatre Company and Business Forward. President Obama appointed Melissa to the President’s Advisory Committee for the Arts. She has been on the Executive Committee of the National Symphony Orchestra of the Kennedy Center and Chair of their Development Committee. Melissa has also served on the board and Executive Committee of Wolf Trap, the national park for the performing arts; First Book, a nonprofit social enterprise dedicated to children’s literacy; The National Partnership for Women and Families; the National Building Museum; and The Economic Club of Washington DC.
Melissa is an honors graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles, and she received her Masters in Public Administration at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. She also attended the Mass Media Institute at Stanford University. A native Californian, Melissa and her husband live in Washington, DC with their twins, a son and daughter.
